about jennyhats
Founded in the summer of 2005, JennyHats was the creation of a suddenly unemployed college graduate. Refusing to once again work at her local mall, Jenn spent most of her time crocheting and knitting until finding a job for whom she could make use of her newly-acquired commercial art degree. Her friends and family, enthused with her yarn creativity, would pay her to make them hats and scarves because they wanted something unique and trendy. After several sales, one of Jenn's friends suggested selling her items at craft shows or online. It was then she found an entire online community dedicated to hand-crafted goodness. Shortly thereafter, she opened her first online store and has been selling ever since.
Jenn learned to knit at the age of 11 while spending time with her grandmother who is very knowledgeable with needle crafts. After trying her hand at cross stitch and several other failed endeavors, knitting seemed to "stick," though that's not entirely true. She had forgotten about it until she went to college and almost everyone in her sorority could crochet. Striving to be different, Jenn picked up her needles and went to work on a scarf. The call of the crochet hook, however, was too strong for her to resist. By the end of her junior year, she was addicted to crocheting and has been chugging along ever since, never forgetting to knit something and keep her brain at work in the process.
In addition to her yarn-hoarding, Jenn also works full-time as a graphic designer an hour outside of Philadelphia and sells AVON on the side. She lives in a beautiful old apartment building with her fiance and their two cats, Charlie Meow-Meow and Petey Bosco, who fully support her yarn addiction because it's a fun, cheap toy. Her fiance, on the other hand, isn't nearly as excited. She attends bi-weekly meetings of a local knitting/crochet group and is active in any charity that accepts crocheted items.
Now, at the age of 25, Jenn realizes how lucky she is to have a hobby that shares her creativity with others. To date, she has several craft shows under her belt and plans on many more. Keep up to date with her crafty adventures at the JennyHats blog, where you can find information about upcoming craft shows, projects, pattern reviews, and other topics.
